Minister has announced scheme commencement date of 1 May 2025

14 February 2025, Tasmania – Minister for Environment, the Hon. Madeleine Ogilvie, has this week officially announced that Recycle Rewards will commence on 1 May 2025. Recycle Rewards will provide Tasmanians with a 10-cent refund for returning eligible drink containers to designated refund points, helping to keep Tasmania beautiful and creating clean streams of recycled materials that will help build our circular economy.

“Recycle Rewards has two goals: to reduce litter and increase recycling, both of which will support the development of our circular economy, an important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future,” Minister Ogilvie said.

“Drink containers make up as much as 45 per cent of Tasmania’s litter, and through Recycle Rewards, we hope to reduce that by half and double their recycling rate.”

There will be a phased roll-out of 49 refund points across Tasmania including on King and Flinders Islands, making the scheme accessible for all Tasmanians.

To assist in the transition for small Tasmanian beverage producers, the Tasmanian Government is funding grants that are now available. The Small Producer Assistance Grants aim to provide eligible small Tasmanian beverage producers with assistance for costs associated with container approvals, obtaining barcodes, and container label updating and printing. Applications for these grants close on 30 June 2025.
